politics and elevators
So we had the Elections Committee meeting last night. While the meeting was semi-productive, we had some visitors who decided that they wanted to challenge everything we had to say. Alas, I publicly chastised them and we went about our business. The quote of the evening came from Suad, who said "if you have to pay people to work on your campaign then you should probably re-think running in the election." I love people who think logically and speak clearly. Speaking of logic, I was on the elevator this morning, travelling from my humble abode on the 10th floor, when I realized "oh hell, half the floor is getting on." The elevator proceeded to stop at every floor, and, low and behold, even though the silvery travelling vessel was cram packed, people still decided to shove their way in. Always assume the lowest common denominator when it comes to group intelligence. And, of course, there was the one asshole of the bunch who decided to be sarcastic and annoying. Maybe the adage really is true: never underestimate the power of stupid people in groups. I happily (and annoyedly) made my dash when we arrived at the second floor. Biggest lesson of last night and this morning: always assume the lowest common denominator, just because people are in college doesn't mean they have common sense.
